I believe the way to pronounce it is like feffer nessa. At least that is the way my husband's grandmother pronounced them that way.

Have you tried the cinnamon vanilla covered pretzels at Lucky's? If not, you haven't lived. They'll give you a free sample of them if you ask. Heaven!
I just tried them in another brand. I think the peffernusse is delicious…. Then again I love Gingerbread & all things Ginger. Yummy the ones I have are covered in powdered sugar by: Archway
