毎日豆を食べることで学んだ7つのこと(驚くかもしれません!)
All right, so I just want to start this off by saying that I actually never used to be a huge fan of beans. Not that I hated them, I just didn’t love them, which simply ended up meaning that I didn’t eat them enough. But learning over time that they’re basically like a superfood. I really wanted to get them into my diet more often. But I had no idea how transformative getting beans into my diet every day would be. So I’m going to tell you all about it. All right. So today’s video I’m going to be talking about seven things that I learned about eating beans every single day. And some of those things include, you know, the best and worst ways to prepare them, the easiest way to get them in your diet every single day, as well as being able to eat them without having to deal with all the gas and bloating. All right, so the first thing that I learned was how to tolerate them. Now, this is coming from someone who used to look at a bean and get bloated. Like it seriously was on that level. It was terrible. So, there was a time that I couldn’t eat beans at all without having all kinds of digestive distress. And I know a lot of you guys out there have the same issue. So, the issue is not so much the beans as it is your digestive system, needing a little bit of fine-tuning to be able to properly digest and break down these beans. I used to have a lot of serious gut issues that all went away once I switched over to an oil-free, whole food plant-based diet, as well as including a lot of fruit and vegetable juicing in my diet. So, I have made videos in my past talking about some of the health issues that I’ve been through. So, I’m not going to get too much into it today. I will try to find those videos and have it linked in my description box below if you’re interested in checking that out. However, for me, when it came to beans and getting to a place where I was actually able to tolerate them came from going slowly. So if you are someone who has troubles digesting beans in general, then you know you must look at some of us that you know we say we eat like a half a cup to one cup of beans like you know like we have five heads or something cuz for you that’s just like unimaginable. But here’s the thing you can work your way up to that point. And later in this video I’m going to be talking about the best ways to prepare the beans so that you have the most minimal side effects as far as like bloating and digestive issues go. But for some of you, no matter how they’re prepared, they might be a struggle. So the thing that you have to do is go very, very slowly. And I’m talking about even if it’s just a tablespoon at a time. So forget about eating a half of a cup or one cup of beans. You know, these are the goals. But if you’re not there, then just go slowly. So, the best way to tolerate them is to include about one tablespoon or a couple tablespoons, whatever you’re most comfortable with, and just let your body get used to that over the course of like a week or two, and see how your body tolerates that little amount. And once you find that it’s tolerating it just fine, then you can increase it by another tablespoon or another 1/4 of a cup or whatever increments you’re most comfortable trying to experiment with. But the key is just to go slow and be gentle with your digestive system when it comes to beans. I mean, the reality is is that they do have a lot of fiber in them. So, if you’re someone who is not used to getting a lot of fiber in your diet, then I would definitely go slow. All right, so this leads me to number two, which is the preparation of beans. Now, this part is everything, especially if you’re someone who struggles digesting beans, but even if you’re not, this part is everything. So, the first thing that I can recommend is ditch the cans. Now, I know a lot of people are going to hate me for that because cans are so convenient, but in my humble opinion, that’s about the only thing that they have going for them is the convenience factor. But when it comes to gas, bloating, being gentle with your digestive system, making them from scratch is the way to go. And if we’re being completely honest here, how much work is it actually to make them from scratch? It’s not a lot, especially if you own an Instant Pot. Now, I’ve actually made a video in the past showing exactly how I make my beans every single week. So, I will have that video for sure linked in my description box below if you want to check that out, which I highly recommend checking that one out because it is actually super easy to prepare them in your Instant Pot. And I actually batch prep my beans and then just throw them in my freezer. So, for me, making them this way, it’s actually just as convenient as having them canned. Okay, so here’s the scoop with why I don’t use canned beans. For one, they caused terrible gas. Absolutely terrible gas. And that’s even including when I rinse them off. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s some of the preservatives they put in there. I don’t know. But all I do know is that whenever I have beans out of a can, oh my gosh, the gas is tremendous. Like, it’s painful. It’s just awful all the way around. So, the gas is number one. The bloating is number two. Again, I’m not sure exactly what it is about canned beans, but I will have incredible bloating after having beans from a can. And thirdly, the texture. Oh my gosh, once you’ve made beans yourself, especially in the Instant Pot. Like, I just have to say, if you don’t have an Instant Pot, getting one just for the sole purpose of preparing beans, is worth your money. Like, honestly, it is money well spent. The Instant Pot makes your beans turn out like butter soft to the point that you can eat them straight out of the Instant Pot. Nothing on them and they will taste absolutely delicious. Telling you, it’s a game changer. But at any rate, once you have made them from scratch, especially in the Instant Pot, it is very, very difficult to go back to canned beans because the canned beans texture just feels so hard and almost like not fully cooked. I don’t know, but I just can’t do it. So, even all the health reasons and everything aside, the texture alone is enough to deter me from being too excited about canned beans. So, my method is to soak the beans the night before, or at least at minimum a few hours before I’m getting ready to make them. And I always pressure cook them in my Instant Pot. But again, I will have that video showing exactly what I do linked in my description box below. But when I use this method of preparing my beans, I’m telling you, there is zero gas and zero bloating. And that is not an exaggeration. Like it is like night and day. So there is absolutely something to the fact in determining how gentle they’re going to be on your digestive system. So the third thing that I learned, which is going to basically circle back to my intro there in saying that I didn’t particularly love beans, so I struggled to get them in my diet daily. So I had to figure out an easy way to get them in every single day. And boy, did I ever. This has got to be maybe one of the most genius ideas I may have ever come up with. You know, it’s not rocket science by any means, but it has been a gamecher in terms of my health. And that is that I get my beans in every day super easily through my fiber protein shakes. Now, if you’re a follower of mine, that is nothing new because all you guys know and I have a lot of you guys drinking these shakes as well and gaining all the same benefits that I did. And in fact, these shakes helped me lose 60 lbs by using them as a meal replacement every single day for breakfast. Now, I got to say, these shakes are not your typical green smoothie or fruit smoothie that are going to leave you hungry like an hour later. These shakes have half of a cup to even one cup of beans in them. So, I’m telling you, they keep you super full. In fact, I just had my coffee crisp shake. Like, this thing was full to the top. I just drank this before I started filming and it’s going to keep me full for hours. These shakes are everything. And might I add, you cannot taste the beans at all. So, please don’t even worry about that. I created a bunch of delicious flavors so that you actually don’t taste the beans. And it’s not again that I hate beans or that I hate the taste of them or anything like that. It’s just that in a North American diet, it’s just not something that, you know, I can get into easily for breakfast, lunch. Maybe sometimes for dinner, you know, when it’s summer, I’m not really craving soups as much. So, it’s just a no-brainer that I can throw them in a shake. I get them in every single day this way without even really realizing that I’m getting them in every single day. Like that coffee crisp shake I just had is incredibly delicious. It has about 1 and 1/2 bananas in it. I have about a half of a cup or even up to one cup of beans if I’m feeling a little bit hungry or I need to, you know, stretch it a little bit further between meals. And then I throw in about a tablespoon or so of some cacao powder, about a teaspoon to two teaspoons of some instant coffee, maybe a little splash of vanilla sometimes, you know, that can be optional, not a big deal, and then a couple of dates. And then I throw in some unsweetened plant-based milk. Whip it up and it is absolutely delicious. I drink these shakes, my kids drink these shakes. It is by far the absolute easiest way to get more beans in your diet every single day. All right, so before we jump into point number four, if you are interested in these shakes, I also have created a video quite some time ago now, but I will have that linked in my description box below and it will explain exactly what these shakes are. In fact, it will also give you seven different recipes, one for every single day of the week from this video. So, I will have that video linked in my description box below so you can check that one out when this video is done. However, if you are just wanting to kind of dive right in, then I am running an incredible sale right now with fall around the corner called Fall in Love with Fiber. And that is that both Shake Off the Weight and Shake Off the Weight Again are on sale as a bundle for only $7. To give some perspective, I just released Shake Off the Weight Again, and there’s 30 fiber protein shakes in this book alone, okay? And this book retails for $16.99. And a lot of people have purchased my books at full price. Now, I’m running a flash sale that will only be running for the next 48 hours only on this bundle, and that is that you get both of these for only $7. Shake Off the Weight has been one of my most popular books to date. So many of you guys have given such positive feedback about how easy it has been to start consuming more fiber in your diet every day by getting these beans in those shakes. These shakes will literally keep you full for hours, and that’s why they were such a critical part of my weight loss journey. They tasted good and they cut me full. I mean, what more can you want when you’re trying to lose weight? I’ve got flavors like vanilla birthday cake, chocolate brownie, Snickers, tons of different flavors. So, even if you just want to check out the flavors, I will also have those posted in my description box below so you can go see if there might be something in there that, you know, catches your eye. But at any rate, these shakes have singlehandedly allowed me to get more fiber in my diet every day. There’s about 20 to 30 gram of fiber in just one shake, which is the daily required amount in in one shake. It’s wild, right? So, anyways, if you want to check out that sale, again, you can get both books, two for $7. I don’t know if I’ve ever had it priced that low for this bundle. So, definitely try to take advantage of it while they are on sale. I will have the link to this bundle posted in my description box below as well as all my other ebooks and bundles will also be on sale for that fall in love with fiber special that I’m running. So again, link can be found in my description box below or in the comments section. So check it out when this video is done. And if you stick to the end of this video with me, there’s going to be a bonus surprise that you’re not going to want to miss. So let’s get into point number four. Okay, so point number four might be a little unexpected or might shock you even. And that is is that they are excellent at replacing fat. So here’s the thing. When I lost the 60 lbs, like almost effortlessly, especially that first 20 pounds, that was when I really reduced my overt fat. So, those are things such as oil, nuts, seeds, avocados, and I’m telling you, the weight basically fell off of me. But what I did when I lowered that fat is that I replaced a lot of things using beans. So, first of all, I drank those shakes every single day. But I also replaced any of my nut-based dressings or dips or sauces with beans instead of a higher fat plant-based food. Much like fat, how it gives a creamier consistency to food, beans have a very similar effect. Fat makes everything taste, you know, a little bit richer. And beans actually do the same thing minus all the fat. And honestly, I just kind of learned this through like a trial and error thing. I didn’t even know that beans had that kind of effect. I was just kind of playing around with different recipes and being like, “Okay, I want to lower the fat on this dressing and let me just try beans and see how that works out.” And honestly, there wasn’t that much difference. And even in those shakes too, the beans give a really nice like creamy effect much like avocado if you put that, you know, in a shake. And even when it came to avocado toast, I used to eat avocado toast all the time. I swap that out with eating bean toast. So I would just mash up some beans and put a little bit of salt and, you know, paprika or garlic powder, whatever on top. Absolutely delicious. Again, it has a very creamy effect like the fat, but without all the fat and a lot of fiber instead. Okay, so the fifth thing that I learned is that they actually kept me fuller than any other food. Like seriously. So I know in the whole food plant-based community, we hear a lot about potatoes, how potatoes are the most satiating food in the world, which by the way, they have been ranked the most satiating food in the world. But when it came to keeping me full for hours, beans take the cake every single time. I always say this, I feel like the potatoes are what make me feel instantly full. you know, that comfort type of food when you get up from the meal and you’re like, “Oh, like I just feel like I want for nothing more.” But beans, well, they can also have that effect, too. The real magic behind the beans was how long they kept me full. So, I just had that very large shake. I had about 3/4 of a cup of beans in that one, and I will probably be good, honestly, for at least 3 to 4 hours. And see, the beauty in that when you’re trying to lose weight is that also helps prevent a lot of unnecessary snacking. Now, I am a snack. I am the one that’s like finishing the little bit off of my kids plate or just taking a bite of this or a bite of that while I’m cooking or preparing food for the kids. But I really found when I started including the beans in my diet every single day that my desire to snack was really really reduced. One because those shakes literally taste like dessert. So that certainly helped. It kind of left me wanting for nothing in terms of like junk food, right? But also because the beans have like this magical effect at kind of just like stabilizing you and keeping you full for hours and hours. I honestly don’t know any other food that has that same effect on me. Again, potatoes can fill me up in the moment, but they do not keep me as full as long as beans do. Okay, number six is that I learned some of the health benefits of eating beans every day. And that is that firstly, they are high in both protein and fiber. So, if protein is a concern of yours following a plant-based diet, then you’re going to be happy to know that they’re super high in protein, but equally, they are super high in fiber. And I know that there’s always so much buzz about, you know, protein needs, protein needs. Are we getting enough protein? All of this. But in my opinion, I think there needs to be as much buzz, if not even more, about our fiber needs. Are we getting enough fiber in our diet? Fiber is a superpower on a weight loss journey because fiber helps to keep you full. Protein also helps to keep you full. And that’s why beans are a powerhouse because you have both protein and fiber. And that is like the ultimate match in keeping you full when you’re trying to lose weight. Beans have also been known to stabilize blood sugar. So that might have also had something to do with why I always feel, you know, just so even. I feel so stable, unlike sometimes I have these highs and lows like sugar crashes or feeling like super hungry. You know, I don’t have that when I’m consuming beans every single day. I can’t explain it. It’s something you have to kind of experience for yourself. But like after drinking that shake, I honestly feel good. I don’t feel like I had too much sugar. You know, I use dates a lot in these shakes because dates, as sweet as they are, they hardly raise your blood sugar. So, between using dates as a sweetener and having the beans in there in general, my blood sugar is stabilized. So, it really just keeps your mood nice and even, it just keeps you feeling really good all around. Okay. Lastly, number seven is that I learned through Karen Herd’s bean protocol, which if you’ve never heard of that, Google it. It’s quite fascinating. In her words, she describes beans as like little scrub brushes for inside of your body. She believes that the soluble fiber in beans binds to bile in the digestive tract, which carries toxins, excess hormones, and cholesterol out of the body. She believes in eating multiple servings a day and that it can correct a whole host of health issues. So, it’s incredible. If you haven’t checked out her protocol, again, I can have the link maybe to the protocol also posted in my description box below, or you can just quickly Google it, whichever you prefer. But it’s very, very interesting and it will leave you like scratching your head thinking, I need to get more beans in my diet every day. All right, guys. So, those are seven things that I’ve learned from eating beans every single day. It has literally changed my life. Beans are not just, you know, this cheap food, which that’s another bonus to them as well, especially in today’s day. But they’re not just some cheap food to be ignored. They can quite literally transform our health. I love getting beans in my diet every single day. And not just in my shakes. I mean, that is my favorite way, but I mean, shoot, I will eat them straight out of the Instant Pot. They are that good to me now. So, I really encourage you guys to up your fiber game, and getting more beans in your diet every single day is the perfect way to do it. All right, guys. Thanks for hanging out with me in today’s video. I hope you found something valuable, maybe learn something new. But at any rate, if you’ve made it to the end of this video, as promised, there is a bonus surprise with that fall in love with fiber sale that I’m running. and that is that the first five people that go click the link to that sale right now is going to be getting that bundle that I talked about earlier in today’s video for absolutely free. I agree just like butter
Hi, can you help me please? I bought 2 of your books Skinny potato and another one. However when I tried to download they disappeared from my screen. Can you send me them by email please. Tysm 🙏🏼
I love can beans😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I agree! 🫘 are great! Love your shakes!
YES! LIKE BUTTER IN THE INSTANT POT!
I don't have an instant pot. I soak my beans overnight and then I use my slow cooker, I make large batches and freeze in 1 cup portions. Yes, it takes longer, but I don't need another appliance.
I LOVE your shakes Stasia! thank you for sharing them with us
I found when I used my instant pot to cook the beans. I would get foaming in the instant pot plus doing quick release the foam would spray out everywhere. How do you prevent this from happening? So now I just use my slow cooker.
Love the shakes💕
Ha ha I just bought a heap of cans 😂😂😂
I make a bean gravy and serve it on potatoes. Very satisfying as well as delicious!
Scratch IS best, but I always have a few cans of beans in the cupboard for quick meals. They never bother me. Maybe it’s because I grew up eating them 😊
Just bought the bundle and another one😊🦇
