EASY Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes

[Music] thanksgiving is always such a busy day in the kitchen you’re cooking you’re baking you’re roasting that turkey and making a side dish shouldn’t be that big of a task for you and that’s why i love the simple dish it’s oven roasted sweet potatoes and i toss it with fresh and dried herbs and then some butter and oil and it turns into this wonderful deliciousness aromatic and so flavorful and it’s sure to be a big hit at the dinner table now for this recipe i don’t have exact measurements for ingredients because it can really work for any number of people if you have more guests coming to dinner you can increase the number of ingredients if you have less you can just make a smaller recipe for this video i’m using three fairly large sweet potatoes and i’ve cubed them into one inch pieces you can actually peel them and cube them ahead of time and then just cover them completely in cold water as i’ve done here now i have some fresh rosemary i also have some fresh thyme and i love fresh thyme it’s one of my favorite herbs i’m also going to need some sea salt some black pepper i also use dry basil leaves i use a little bit of garlic powder and we also have a little bit of paprika and it’s going to add a little bit of the extra color i also have some avocado oil and i prefer to use avocado oil because it’s great for cooking at high temperatures and it doesn’t have an aftertaste we’re also going to need a little bit of butter now i know i said this recipe is oven roasted sweet potatoes but i’m going to show you a trick to decrease the cooking time i actually start cooking the sweet potatoes on the stovetop i’m going to transfer these into a fairly large pot [Music] all right and i’m going to cook this for about 10 minutes and you want those potatoes to start turning tender but not all the way through so they’re going to have a little bit of firmness left in them i’m going to season the water with just a little bit of salt and when these are done we’re going to come back and i’ll show you how you can season them with all the herbs so i’ve pre-cooked my sweet potatoes and i boiled them for about 10 minutes and you can see they’re just starting to turn soft on the outside but they still have a little bit of firmness that’s just the way we want it now go ahead and preheat the oven on 350 degrees and i also have a baking sheet ready to put my sweet potatoes on too all right and now i’m going to add about three tablespoons of melted butter and i do about a tablespoon per sweet potato we’re going to pour that on top and then we’re going to add about three tablespoons of oil as well i’m just going to add just as a coating and as an adhesive for all those herbs to stick onto the potatoes i’m just going to give it a quick toss okay and now we can start adding some of our herbs and i’m going to go ahead and de-stem some of these fresh thyme springs just like that just to pull down on the on the stem and the little leaves come right off and we’re also going to add some fresh rosemary just peel it right in there also going to season this with some freshly ground black pepper and i love freshly ground pepper because it just adds so much flavor and the aroma is amazing we’re also going to season with lots of salt [Music] just sprinkle it on top and you can also give it a little taste throughout the cooking process make sure it has enough salt we’re getting a little bit of garlic powder [Music] we’re also going to add some dried pasta leaves and again just eyeball everything if if you want more spices add more spices if you have a particular spice that you really like go ahead and add it too and just a little bit of paprika adds a little bit of that red color which is perfect i’m going to toss this all together you want to really coat all the sweet potatoes so everything has a little bit of herb on it i’m going to just pour this into my baking sheet just like that you wanna get a spatula and just scrape out any of those herbs that were left back in the pan just like that now we’re just gonna spread this evenly across the pan just like this and then if you like i like to add a little bit more fresh freshly cracked black pepper on top just add a little bit more seasoning a little bit more salt now i’m going to go ahead and place this into the oven and i’m going to bake it just until it’s nice and tender and at the very end we can even turn on the broiler just to give the top of the of the sweet potato a nice golden crisp color i just took these sweet potatoes out of the oven and the aroma is just unbelievable they smell amazing and they’re sure to be a great hit for dinner thanksgiving i’m gonna give one a try i just look amazing i put them under the broiler for the last couple minutes just to crisp them up a little bit and give them a nice golden color [Music] my favorite okay now we’re going to transfer this into a nice serving bowl and if you’re not planning to serve them right away go ahead and cover them with a little bit of foil just to keep them warm you can also keep them in the oven i’m just going to finish transferring all the sweet potatoes here into my serving bowl and if Delicious and super-easy-to-make oven roasted sweet potatoes made with fresh herbs and butter! This dish will fill our kitchen with amazing aroma and will be gone in minutes; my favorite side dish!

Peeled, cubed sweet potatoes
salt, fresh ground black pepper
fresh thyme, fresh rosemary
dried basil, garlic powder, smoked paprika
butter, 1 tablespoon per potato
avocado oil or olive oil, 1 tablespoon per potato

INSTRUCTIONS
1. There are two different ways of preparing oven-roasted sweet potatoes. The first method is the one I used in my video recipe, which involves cooking the potatoes first, then seasoning them with butter and spices. This method works well if you need the sweet potatoes to be extra soft. Preheat oven to 350F. Place sweet potatoes into large pot filled with water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, just until the potatoes start to become tender. Drain water.

2. Toss together potatoes with melted butter and oil, herbs, salt and black pepper. Bake in preheated oven until fork-tender and golden brown, about 15 to 18 minutes. Broil for a few minutes on high heat to make the potatoes extra golden. Remove and transfer into serving bowl.

3. Method 2: The second method and the one I currently use requires less work. Just spread the raw sweet potatoes onto a baking sheet. Pour butter or olive oil over the potatoes, then add the seasonings, toss everything together and cover the pan with foil! Set your oven to 425F and roast the sweet potatoes covered for about 20 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes. For more color, broil under high temperature for a few minutes.

  1. Omg- I just saw this video- u guys 4 years ago made salt jokes- and I promise u they are still hilarious,April 2022. Well done ☑️ I am 💀…. Someone said I wanted to make this recipe but I only have 5000 grams of salt 😂 🤌🏼

  2. Where is the brown sugar? these look like they would get dried out quickly, and the amount of sallt is sure a heart attack recipe.

  3. Finally, a cook who knows the "h" in herbs is silent. You've got my vote. Thanks for a lovely video and I will be using your recipe.

  4. I made these to throw into my veggie salad and they are delicious!! (I didn't use the fresh herbs because I didn't have any and I used olive oil because that it what I had on hand)

  5. Making this recipe for this coming Easter 🐣 along with your Staffed Pork Sirloin and Gravy !! 🐰 Yum!!
By the way, I just made your fabulous Crepe Tiramisu Cake!! It’s scrumptious 😊

  6. Judging by all these salt commenters, no wonder a lot of black people say us white people don't season our food. That's really not as much salt as y'all are making it out to be. Lots of bland mother fuckers up in here. If you know anything about cooking, that's the right amount of salt to use.
