Founded in 1887. Among private railways, it has the longest history after Nankai Electric Railway. The year after its foundation, the line between Matsuyama [now Matsuyama City] and Mitsu opened, and in 1893 the line between Mitsuguchi [Furumachi], Dogo [Dogo Onsen] and Matsuyama opened, with the two lines connecting at Furumachi. Later, when Matsuyama Electric Railway was merged into Matsuyama Electric Railway, the Furumachi – Matsuyama Ekimae line was opened, and the former Matsuyama Electric Railway suburban outer line was abolished.

【MATSUYAMA CITY STATION】
Matsuyama City Station is a station on the Iyo Railway Takahama Line in Minato-cho, Matsuyama City, Mie Prefecture. It is called “City Station” to distinguish it from JR Matsuyama Station, the central station of Matsuyama City. The station building houses the largest department stores’ in Shikoku, the Iyotetsu Takashimaya, and there is a busy shopping and office area in the vicinity. In addition to three suburban train lines, there is a city tram [streetcar] with the “Botchan Train” running on the north side of the station, bus lines and a taxi stand, which are used by commuters, business travellers and tourists all day long. If the timing is good, you can see the “Bocchan Train” change direction.
