In the morning, you’ll be enveloped in the sweet aroma of carefully brewed coffee and fragrant donuts . During the day, you can enjoy the flavors of the ingredients at specialty coffee shops and matcha sweets shops, or spend the day at a cafe with a cutting-edge atmosphere around Inokashira Park. First, we will introduce KIKi, a detached cafe located in a quiet residential area of ​​Kichijoji. KIKi is scheduled to open in June 2024 with the concept of being a place where everyone can spend time comfortably. Originally known locally as “Two Trees,” the cafe was renovated with a playful name, “KIKi,” meaning two trees. The cafe is based on a storefront, and offers a carefully selected cafe menu and products, centered on handmade donuts made with carefully selected ingredients and methods . It is important to provide a time that is kind to the body and enriches the mind. With the renovation in 2024, the cafe will maintain and strengthen its charm as a hideaway-style cafe, while also offering a vegan menu. As you can see, the interior is casually arranged with furniture that makes use of wood grain and tables and chairs of different sizes, creating a warm atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve been invited into a friend’s home. There are two tables for four people and two tables for two people, for a total of 12 seats. The shop is characterized by the flow of people entering the living room from the dirt floor after taking off their shoes, and the calm lighting . There are also sofa seats, so it is popular with people who want to stay comfortably. The featured menu items are the chewy donuts and the vegan lunch plate. I visited for breakfast on this day, but the lunch plate is also recommended . There are five types of lunch plate in total, and it is a set dish with a side dish, salad, miso soup, etc. The other is the chewy donut . As soon as you enter, you’ll see a wide selection lined up , and just looking at them is fun! KIKi’s popular donuts are made with domestic rice flour and are gluten-free and plant-based. Apparently, the owner is a licensed registered dietitian , and they’re conscious of both health and flavor when selecting ingredients and creating menu items . KIKi is firmly rooted in the Kichijoji cafe scene, adhering to the three pillars of ingredients, handmade, and a comfortable atmosphere. It’s not just the quality of the lunch and donuts, but a visit that allows you to experience a thoughtful lifestyle. On this day, I visited for breakfast, and tried the donut morning set. The Donut Morning Set is a set that includes donuts and a drink menu. Another feature of this set is that you can customize your plate to your liking by paying an additional fee. On this day, I ordered scrambled eggs, sausages, cup soup, and salad. You can choose between onion and corn for the cup soup, but I chose corn. It had a rich texture and the natural sweetness of the corn spread throughout my mouth. I also selected sausages, scrambled eggs, and salad. Personally, I felt that the sausages were a bit pricey at 150 yen each . So, the most cost-effective option might be to add soup to the simple Donut Morning Set. However, it looks very beautiful, so it might be a good idea to order as much as you like. As for drinks, you can choose from coffee, tea, rooibos tea, herbal tea , cola, or ginger ale. Coffee and tea are available for unlimited refills until 11:00, so you can enjoy them at a great price. Next up is Andoh Coffee, located in a residential area. Coffee is a coffee stand run by owner Ando, ​​whose shop formerly operated in Harmonica Yokocho. It moved to its current location along Itsukaichi Kaido in June 2025, and offers coffee that blends seamlessly into the local lifestyle. The interior is bright, with white walls and wood tones, and natural light pours in. The roaster is located behind the counter, filling the air with the fragrant aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. In addition to the stylish seating made from burlap sacks, there are bench-style seats lined up in front of the shop. Many customers, both solo diners and local regulars, come to enjoy their coffee or purchase beans for takeout, spending their time in their own way. The beans are primarily single-origin, sourced from a single farm. The drip brew, which carefully utilizes the characteristics of the beans of the day, is highly acclaimed. Because the shop is particular about its beans, filter coffee is recommended , but the latte menu is also extensive. In addition to the regular latte, there are also oat milk lattes, rice koji milk lattes, and Kikaijima lattes, and even chai drinks are available for those who don’t like coffee. Of course, they also sell beans, and some people buy them for home use or as gifts. Andoh Coffee’s roasting style respects the original characteristics of the beans, and is characterized by a roasting style that does not destroy the flavor of the beans made by the producers. Today, I ordered a latte and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll is a popular baked confectionery menu item. The light and fluffy brioche dough is filled with the aroma of spices blended with cinnamon and cardamom. The finishing glaze is thin and not too sweet. The latte uses mainly light roasted beans, and you can choose between a single or double espresso. The single has a light and mellow flavor, while the double has a pronounced richness and bitterness, perfectly balanced with milk. Next, I’d like to introduce SUZU, which was launched in April 2025. MATCHA Cafeteria is a matcha specialty shop that is open only on Fridays and Saturdays in a cafe space where the shop changes depending on the day of the week. It is a new shop that just opened this year, and based on the concept of tea and seasonal sweets, it offers a gentle and comfortable cafe experience that combines matcha with seasonal fruits. As you can see, the interior is a soothing space with a natural and calm atmosphere. The clean interior with white and green as the main colors and counter seats where natural light pours in are also attractive. There are counter and table seats, and consideration has been given to making it easy to enjoy sweet time even by yourself. It is a space filled with love and gentle thoughts for matcha, reminiscent of the owner’s hometown , Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Various goods are sold in the store, and you can actually purchase tea leaves. You can also enjoy the tea ceremony, so I hope you will take your time to look around and experience the world of matcha. You can also see the process of how the menu is made, so it may be a fresh experience for those who do not usually try matcha. Due to its location, there are not many foreign tourists, but I think it is quite a highlight for foreigners as well. Now, this is what it looks like when matcha is actually being made. As you make the matcha, you can enjoy its aroma and hear an explanation of the special attention to detail, so I hope you will take your time to experience the world of matcha. There are only seven seats in the store, so I recommend that you visit with plenty of time to spare. Please note that payment can be made by QR code or cash . The drink I had just made was a Yame Matcha Latte, and this was a Kirishima Matcha Soda. The Kirishima Matcha Soda is a perfect summer drink with its refreshing carbonation and the crisp bitterness of the matcha. It had a clean taste and a Japanese accent. Each piece of matcha was carefully brewed and made into a soda, so I hope you enjoy the aroma. The other drink I had was the Yame Matcha Latte, a milky drink with a pleasant aroma of Yame Matcha and a subtle bitterness. The milk was carefully selected, resulting in a deep flavor that was exquisite . The flavor of the matcha and the richness of the milk blended elegantly, making it a perfect match with the sweets. I also ordered some Japanese sweets that day. On the left front is a Shine Muscat snow mochi, and on the right front are peaches and mascarpone. The dorayaki was a fluffy, original dorayaki wrapped in slightly sweet peaches and mascarpone cream. The freshness of the fruit and the mellowness of the cream were in perfect harmony. The other was Shine Muscat Yukimochi, a Japanese dessert made with a generous amount of large Shine Muscat grapes. The fluffy texture of the Yukimochi and the juicy Muscat grapes were a pleasant combination, making for a refreshing and elegant fruit dessert . These menus change with the seasons . Next up is Nido. Nido Inokashira Park Store, located right in front of the Inokashira Park entrance, just opened in August 2025. This is the second location of the popular nido in Kamishakujii and Zenpukuji Park. Nido is Italian for bird’s nest , and the store was born from the desire to create a community nest where anyone could relax in the previously empty area of ​​Zenpukuji Park. The Inokashira Park store also features a striking exterior, centered around a logo featuring the dynamic silhouette of a bird about to take flight. The contrast between the beige and gray exterior walls and the black window frames creates a modern look. Large glass windows offer a glimpse into the interior, creating a very open atmosphere. Entering the store, you’ll be struck by the black counter, white marble-like tiles , and colorful paintings by Tomokazu Matsuyama . The calming background music playing inside makes it the perfect space for a relaxing time. Dogs are also welcome inside the nido store, and a wide selection of doggie milks and treats are available. As mentioned earlier, we’re also introducing the roaster cafe andoh in Kichijoji . They serve hand drip coffee and lattes made with coffee beans, with a wide selection from light to dark roasts. In addition to coffee, they also have a wide selection of tea drinks, such as homemade lemonade and homemade chai oat latte . The food menu is centered around bakery items, with a good balance of sweet and savory options. There are also several types of croissants, tartar egg sandwiches, and scones, so you might have a hard time deciding what to order. From the menu, I ordered a prosciutto and cheese sandwich and a seasonal drink called the Pumpkin Cloud . While the Pumpkin Cloud is not currently available, the Cloud itself is a signature menu item at Nido, so I recommend you try the regular flavor. The Pumpkin Cloud is a pumpkin milk drink with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. The fluffy foam cream on top is like a drinkable dessert. With one sip, you can taste the fluffy milk and sweetness of the pumpkin, and you can fully enjoy autumn. As for the prosciutto and cheese sandwich, the salty prosciutto and melted cheese are an exquisite match with the fragrantly toasted soft French bread. The thick, fluffy French bread is soft and moist inside . The scones are also noteworthy, and there is a wide variety of items, so please choose one to match your mood that day. And finally, we would like to introduce a hideaway called Sinensis, which is a 2024 store. This authentic Chinese restaurant, which opened on December 1st, is run by a chef from a famous restaurant that was awarded a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide Tokyo, and is known for its Chinese coriander . There are many different types of Chinese cuisine in Japan, but the restaurant values ​​the basics of each region’s cooking methods and incorporates elements of Japanese and Western cuisine , seeking both the good old culture and new, undiscovered possibilities in Japanese Chinese cuisine. Its concept is based on learning from the past and creating something new. The restaurant is set in a modern and warm space renovated from an old Japanese house, where you can casually enjoy high-quality Chinese cuisine. The design, which combines the texture of wood and soft lighting, is a truly unique experience. It has a warm atmosphere amidst its calm tranquility, making it perfect for dates, girls’ nights, and business trips. There are various seating styles, from counter seats to small semi-private rooms, making it a recommended space for when you want to have a leisurely conversation. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, from 11:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 15:30 to 22:30. It’s a fairly popular restaurant, so we recommend making a reservation. Now, let me introduce the menu we ordered , but please note that this restaurant charges a cover charge of 500 yen per person. First, we ordered Tsingtao beer and homemade lemon sour. As for the Tsingtao beer, it’s a premium label. While many people have had Tsingtao beer in Chinatown, this premium label is quite rare, so I recommend trying it on this occasion. The ginger is also included in the cover charge, so it’s a great palate cleanser after ordering other Chinese dishes. We started with the appetizer platter , a luxurious dish with small portions of colorful appetizers. From the first bite, we were delighted. The anticipation is building. On this day, we had the deliciously crunchy lemon-marinated jellyfish, the specialty drool-inducing chicken, which is slow- cooked chicken topped with homemade chili oil , the conger eel and eggplant jelly, perfect for summer , and summer vegetables dressed with fermented bean curd miso. The menu changes with the seasons, so please look forward to it when you order. Next up was shrimp mayonnaise sauce and conger eel and corn spring rolls. First up was shrimp mayonnaise, a popular dish with plump shrimp tossed in a mellow mayonnaise sauce . It was creamy yet light, making it an easy-to-eat dish. The other dish was conger eel.
