[Homemade] Strawberry Jam Recipe 【手作り】苺ジャムの作り方

Salut! Emojoie here. I’m showing you how to make. Wash the strawberries and cut off the hull. It’s traditional to use the same amount of sugar as the fruit, but I want to hold back on the sweetness for this jam today, cutting the sugar to half. I used half a lemon today, but I noticed the acidity at the end so it’s probably best to cut it down to a quarter of lemon for 500g of strawberries. You’ll start to see some liquid if you squish them with a wooden spoon Heat the strawberries in the pot. It’s better to use a bigger pot to avoid boiling over. When it’s boiled, turn the heat down to medium. Even lower if it looks like it might boil over. The shorter the time spends on the heat, the brighter the colour will be at the end. I’ll continue on medium heat. If you want to have any fully shaped strawberries in your jam, take a few out now and add them later. I had some time on my hands so I went to water my olive tree. We got about 20 fruit last year. Except for cacti, I don’t grow anything that isn’t edible haha It’s getting reduced quite a bit. The berries were so ripe we have no full shapes left. To test the consistency of the jam, take a small amount on a plate. If it drips slowly, that’s perfect. It’ll solidify a little more when cooled. Just once at the end, scoop out any scum. This isn’t bad scum. I say scum but it’s just bubbles since strawberries don’t have scum, to begin with. I already did hot water sterilization.
It’s important to do this for long lasting jam. Although given that we only started with 500g of strawberries, we’re only getting about one jar full of jam. As long as it’s washed it should be fine. Tightly seal the lid on, let it cool upside down so let minimal air in. Since it’s low on sugar than usual, make sure to preserve it in the fridge once you open it. So I wanted to order 6 jars for the jam, but I received 2 boxes. Turns out they were in dozens, which means I got 72 jars right now lol We finally got some sun here so I went to eat outside. I only had it on the heat for 20 minutes so the colour is so vibrant. With the sugar cut in half, it has an elegant sweetness to it. If you want yours to taste like store bought jam, I recommend an amount of sugar that’s 80~100% of the weight of the fruit. What a great start to this day. Thank you so much for watching!
