English: Hello , this time for Part 2 of recommended bars in San Sebastian. I’ll be introducing mostly bars in the area north of Bar Sport , which I introduced in Part 1. The bars I ‘m introducing this time are all popular, so I’ll try to include as much information as possible to help you narrow down your choices. Also, I didn’t mention this in Part 1 , but generally when ordering at a bar , you call out to the staff directly at the counter, so even in bars with chairs and tables, staff rarely come to your table to take your order, so you have to order at the counter. So when it’s busy , you have to be really determined to go in The location is here. Bar Sport is one street north of Bar Sport. It has high reviews too. The exterior looks like this . The restaurant is closed on Mondays . Please note that the restaurant is also closed from 3:30pm to 8pm. The most popular dishes at this restaurant are these four classic dishes . I’ve never seen anyone else eating anything else . 1st, tortilla. 2nd, tomato salad. 3rd, deep-fried bell peppers (which look like shishito peppers). 4th, chuleta (beef steak). The first tortilla is limited in quantity and requires a reservation, so even if the restaurant opens at 1 PM, they start taking reservations from 11 AM, so early birds start lining up at around 10 AM, like this. Even if you go normally, you’ll have to line up, so be prepared to wait in line either way. The queues aren’t that different in the summer high season or the winter off-season, but I highly recommend it for people who like meaty red meat. The tomato salad was simple but really delicious, perhaps because they use the rock salt called Anja’s Salt, which I introduced in Part 1, or perhaps because they use a different type of tomato. They let you choose the size of the beef before grilling it, so order the size you like. Also, many people at this restaurant ordered Spanish Rioja wine, so if you like red wine, be sure to try it. The four popular dishes and two drinks at this restaurant cost around 80-90 euros, depending on the size of the meat. It’s a little pricey, but I think it’s worth it. The next place is Bar Irrintz, where I just introduced the bar. It’s almost directly opposite Nestor and has decent reviews, but is closed on Tuesdays. However, I’ve never been to this restaurant. I was always distracted by how crowded Nestor was and didn’t look into it properly, but when I did, I found that it had good reviews and is popular for its simple, authentic pintxos. How about using it as a substitute when you come across a store that’s temporarily closed ? The next restaurant is Chepecha Taverna. It’s located on the same street as Nestor, about a minute’s walk from Sport. This place is also highly rated. It seems that summer vacation is around September, so please be careful if you plan to visit during this time. I’ve been here twice in the summer, and both times I visited during the off-season during summer vacation , but I finally got in on the third time. Also, this restaurant is closed on Mondays, and is closed from 3pm to 7pm, so please be careful. The exterior looks like this, and it was crowded too. This restaurant is popular for its anchovy pintxos. There was a menu with photos, so it’s a good idea to look at the photos and choose the pintxo you want to eat . The saltiness of the anchovies makes you want to drink alcohol. Here, four pintxos and two drinks cost about 20 euros. The next restaurant is La Viña (La Viña) This is the shop where Basque cheesecake originated. It’s about a 2-3 minute walk from Sport here . Please note that they are closed every day except Mondays and from 4pm to 7pm on business days. My rating is pretty good among San Seba’s cheesecakes. The exterior looks like this . There are photos of Basque cheesecakes on display in front of the store. Pay attention to the mouth! The Txakoli performance is great service and entertaining. The recommendation here is, of course, Basque cheesecake . The shelves inside the store are jam-packed with Basque cheesecakes. By the way, the texture of the Basque cheesecakes here is completely different between eating them in summer and winter . I’m not sure how much a photo can convey, but… for example, can you tell that the tip of the Basque cheesecake when I went in the summer is more gooey? And this is Basque cheesecake when I went in the winter . Can you tell that the tip is firmer than the summer version ? I looked it up later and found out that Basque cheesecake is enjoyed at different temperatures. I had no idea about this. However, I have tried Basque cheesecake in summer and winter at Sport, which is well-known in this video, and I didn’t notice such a big difference . By the way, this is the summer Basque cheesecake at Sport . If you like it , try different varieties. In addition to the pintxos lined up on the counter, there was also this. This looks like soft serve ice cream, but it ‘s actually very sour and salty. It exceeded my expectations in a good way, so I was lucky to have an excuse to drink it . It was 46 euros, just like the picture . Also, they had paella, which is rare here, so I tried it . If you’re planning to go to Barcelona or Valencia, the home of paella , I recommend you try it there. If you want to compare the flavors, it’s not a bad idea to try it, but if you want to try other things, please hold back and save some space in your stomach. Also, by the way, there is one unfortunate piece of information about this restaurant – it seems that some of the staff are discriminatory. I have been there three times, and each time I have only encountered people who have always been friendly with a smile, so to me it is just a rumor . However, there is nothing to be careful about, so if you sense that someone is acting like that when you are ordering, just order from a staff member other than that person. The next restaurant is La Sepa de Bernardo. It is located on the same street as La Viña, just nearby. It is about a 3-minute walk from Sport. The reviews here are also pretty good. This is a great restaurant that is open every day. The exterior looks like this. The recommendation here is Jamon Iberico. You can get ham “whole” at various bars. The two bars in San Sebastian that I ‘ve heard good things about for Jamon Iberico are this one and Gandarias, which I’ll be introducing in Part 3. There may be other good restaurants, but I’ll have to wait until then. Personally, I like to eat Jamon Iberico with sangria , but they don’t serve sangria here, which is a bit disappointing . I think the price was around 25 euros, as you can see in the photo. Also, I came across this restaurant when it was temporarily closed for renovations during my visit in February 2025 , so the interior and exterior may have changed from the image you just saw. For your reference, the next restaurant is Bar Martinez , located here. It’s almost next to La Sepa de Bernardo, which I introduced earlier, and a 3-minute walk from Sport . I’ve never been here, but I was checking it out as a possible alternative in case it was closed. It’s closed on Thursdays. The reviews are a little low compared to the other restaurants I’ve introduced so far. It seems they have a wide selection of pintxos to choose from, so if you’d like, please give it a try. The last restaurant I’ll introduce in Part 2 is La Cuchara de San Termo is located here. Walk from La Viña to La Sepa de Bernardo . Turn right at Bar Martinez, and you’ll find it at the end of the alley on your right. It’s a 3-minute walk from Sport. It’s closed on Mondays, but on business days it’s closed from 3:30 or 4:00 PM (depending on the day) until 7:00 PM
. The exterior looks like this, and it’s always crowded. This place feels more like a tapas place than a pintxo place . They have a menu, but it’s hard to imagine what it’s like because it’s all printed text, so I’ll just introduce the menu I had. I think it’s quicker to order by showing a photo. Squid ink pasta risotto : The squid ink was rich, the pasta had a great texture, and the glass was empty in no time. Grilled tuna: If you like fish, try this too. Grilled octopus: This is also water octopus, so the texture was a little lacking. Beef cheek stewed in red wine (they said it was stewed in Rioja wine). In Part 1, I also introduced beef cheeks braised in red wine at Bordabelli, but unfortunately I was so full at Bordabelli that I can’t remember the taste, so I can’t compare the flavors. However, the texture of both was great, even without teething. Sautéed foie gras: Since foie gras isn’t readily available in Japan , I ordered this on impulse… Navajas (razor clams): This is one of my favorite ingredients to eat in Spain . I’ll be introducing it in the Valencia and Barcelona editions, so if you’re a shellfish lover, I highly recommend it . However, it wasn’t available at this restaurant during the winter off-season. This was grilled cod , with a mild flavor that goes well with txakoli . The staff here are also cheerful and upbeat, so you can enjoy a variety of dishes. It’s hard to give an exact price, but I think you should expect 20-30 euros for two or three of the dishes I introduced and two drinks . That’s all for today. Next time, I’ll be introducing the west side of the area where Sport is located , so please come back in Part 3! There are still more popular restaurants to come, so stay tuned!
