I want to know more about the original gypsy thing
Hello! I'm a Urquidez who lives in the US. I traveled to Markina-Xemein to explore my roots. I was wondering if you know of any Urquidez still living in the area. I did see multiple graves with Urquidez names, but that is all I can find. Thanks! Love your channel!
We travelled to Basque Country and Spain from the USA and visited a small town called Gatika in Basque Country. They were very nice people and very hospitable. Food was amazing. I being hispanic and fluent in Castilian had very nice interactions with them. We are visiting Boise this August and am looking forward to explore the Basque market! My ancestry dna test says I'm 1% Basque. I am also RH negative. lol
The expert 🙈😂
Did I write this here? In Spain they have joke that says that Basques can have surgery without anesthesia… It is a joke, of course..
When traveling in Euskadi ("Spanish" side of the border), I never had a more friendly and welcoming encounter with a general group of people during any of my western world travels. People were super accommodating and open with me. I didn't even pull my "Basque genetics and last name card". They mostly just saw me as North American 1st Nations. Still super cool to me.
ETA had its reasons for existing as freedom fighters initially. When an oppressor (Franco in this case) takes everything away from a populace, they create bold people with nothing left to lose by fighting back.
ETA gradually mutated into something very far from its roots over time (getting into dirty m, gritty shit to fund and survive to preying and intimidating the very people of the communities they originally were protecting) and eventually outlived its purpose.
It seems to be a common path with freedom fighter groups where they devolve into terror groups.
Timing is everything when it comes to usefulness and labels. When times and circumstances change, sometimes an expiration date is necessary.
Much respect to the original guard who had their backs to the wall with their very way of life (and personal lives) under brutal assault and persecution and still had the balls to fight against seemingly insurmountable odds to be heard when all ears were blocked. The bravery and sacrifice under such an unholy terror is something of legend. The terrorized had to basically "terrorize back" to live.
However, as said before, the purpose, mission and direction spun out of control and eventually didn't match up with changes in the times.
Much respect to the original guard who preserved the Basque way of life and dignity when they were victims of a literal war.
Much respect to the final guard who recognized that ETA had become something far different from what it originally was and deciding to dissolve the group.
When the terrorized oppressed start to emulate their oppressors and target innocents on both sides, it is time to look in the mirror and reassess.
Respect and honor to the victims and fallen on both sides of such a horrible ethno-political war. May such things never happen again.
7:06 Recent research by Cullife and Koch puts out a new hypothesis about the migration of the Celts from the West, it is the Atlantic Ocean, and not the East (Hallstatt, La Tène). There's an interesting conference by Prof. Gonzalo Ruiz Zapatero about this subject.
I was scoffing about the blood thing, and then you said negative blood and O type and my O- ass got weirdly excited for a reason. I can see why people believe it when it can help with a sense of belonging lol
basques are mean people.
General Franco declared Spanish as official Spain language. Euskara and Catalan were prohibited. (Jail and Fines for speakers ) That setting lead to independentist Basque movements as well as ETA birth, with the notion to preserve their cultural roots and language, the oldest in Europe. Bad chapter for both sides now settled and hopefully forgiven yet another one with profound implications in modern Spain rich cultural history.
Uhh do siblings even have 99% of the same DNA 🧬?? 🤨 wtf that’s beyond inbreeding
A small percentage agree they want independence?? 😳 🤦🏽♂️
Diana Troy, Marina sirtis, accused me of being a terrorist when we met. Fortunately it turned out to be a decent conversation 👌.
Stubborn is well deserved. The frechies don't have the anger issues the south has. After many years away.A basque family understood my family instantly.D.n.a might create the same culture,no matter where it goes.we have that in our blood.Mexicans think you are trying to be something that you are not, when you just look at your family tree.I am down with being native too.It makes me a very angry baby.
Impossible to bracket a "people". I have spent a lot of time in Vizkaya…my wife is half Basque…. and we now have a flat there. Some of them do consider themselves a v special people and superior to others and yet have a sceptical attitude to themselves. They've accepted me from day one. My only bug bear is, when you have a drink you don't get a tapas with it, unlike Asturias and Galicia. Basques are tight!
Basques: The oldest Europeans. The psychic Edgar Cayce, said the Basques were the original real people of Atlantis.
I lived in Bilbao and the people were definitely warm and friendly.
Resistance to oppression is NOT terrorism.
She doesn't look Basque at all. Her Spanish accent is off. And to call her people terrorists without knowing the reason why they did what they do nor the historical context. She ain't full Basque. Look at old videos of Basques and you will see
I'm Basque heritage my DNA R1b-M167
It's probably difficult with different ethnic groups
Calling basque french or Spanish is like calling Kurdish Iraqis. Let me guess, it's AMERICANS who say this, because they also can't work out if I'm New Zealand or Australian by my accent and keep thinking Australians call themselves ENGLISH. I mean we've ONLY been independent for 122 YEARS. Honestly Americans are just geographically retarded compared to ANY other country. Even people deep in the back end of Russia know the English had an empire and knew about koalas right after the USSR collapsed.
The fact is BASQUE ARE different genetically because of LONG isolation from the outer world. This small gene pool is like what Sicily and Samoa faces, where certain genes are more pronounced. And it COMPLETELY explains the language that matches with nothing else.
Kaitxo. I just discovered your channel. You do great work. I see you aren't putting vids on currently. I hope all is well in your life.
Fun fact: An RH negative mother's body rejects her own child if it's blood type is RH positive.
LOL correct!!!!
Awesome Job Young Lady 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm watching a video on the Basque settlers in Puerto Rico and see your name; "Hella Basque"! 😂 Love it!
And your first "misconception" is word for word what's said about New Yorkers, that we're rude, but those who are actually are as hospitable as anyone else.
Oh, and for Puerto Ricans, "pinchos" are meat on a stick (pork, chicken, etc…).
My family's roots are from the french part of the basque country and moved the US 200ish years ago so any information on the french side is nice
Eskerrik asko bideoagatik 🙂
My dad doesnt accept that hes basque
Hes convinced hes aztec cuz of the z in our name
Plus we come from mexico

The coolest thing about basques is that we are holders of most western european dna
Other euros are of the sami, & or sardinian
Basques really are aliens!! Just saying we are not your average folk we deserve special rights
