I Needed Today to Be a Big Day for Me | Disney World Day 380

Day 380 became one of those Walt Disney World days where the journey kept growing because the morning kept giving us reasons to stay.

We started before sunrise around the Swan and Dolphin and Disney’s BoardWalk, then slowed down for a guided meditation about recognizing growth in the small ways we respond differently than we once did.

“Sometimes growth is noticing what no longer controls me.”

A few minutes later, watching the sunrise, I admitted something I needed to remember: this show has to be for me, too — not only metrics, expectations or fear of disappointing people.

That idea followed us through the day.

We found a great blue heron sitting in the sunrise near the water, with a Friendship Boat passing behind her. I ended up down in the grass trying to get the shot, and she became the star of the morning.

On the walk toward EPCOT, a community member stopped me, told me the show had gotten her walking every day, shared that we were connected through sobriety, and then told me she was pregnant. That was one of those moments that explains why I keep coming back out here.

At EPCOT we entered through International Gateway, rode Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, explored World Showcase, stopped at the Germany miniature trains, tried Food & Wine Festival snacks, found a Hidden Remy and spent quiet time with the stingrays at The Seas.

We also talked honestly about autism and why the ambiguity of ride lines can build pressure for me.

Later, a Cast Member asked what this show is.

    The answer was simple:

    “We drift and linger.”

We walk. We talk. We notice nature. We find live entertainment. We spend time with a worldwide community that includes many neurodivergent friends.

Near the end, Mark and Becky joined us. I called them community members, then corrected myself: they are more like family. I never expected to be making friendships like this in my late 40s.

After more than seven hours, Neil at Rose & Crown became our finale with live piano and a room full of people singing along.

Just before that set, I said what the whole day had become:

“I needed today to be a big day for me. I needed to feel strong.”

    By the end, I did.

Thank you to Neil, the Walt Disney World Cast Members we met, Mark and Becky, David and Pam, every community member who stopped to say hello, and everyone behind the scenes who helped make this 7½-hour Disney day possible.

    I Am Hear.

This one became a much bigger day than I expected.

Early in the morning I realized I needed to remember something:

This show has to be for me, too.

      Not just the numbers.
      Not just expectations.
Not just worrying about whether someone will be disappointed if I slow down.

Then the day kept answering that thought.

A sunrise I didn't want to walk away from.

A great blue heron that had me lying in the grass trying to get the shot.

A community member telling me the show got her walking every day, discovering we shared a sobriety connection, and then hearing that she was pregnant.

A Cast Member asking what we actually do here.

      “We drift and linger.”

Mark and Becky reminding me that people who started as members of this community have become much more like family.

And after seven and a half hours, Neil giving us the perfect live-music finale.

Near the end I said, “I needed today to be a big day for me. I needed to feel strong.”

I think that may be the story of Day 380.

      What was your moment?

Go well. Bring the calm. Be the magic.
