  1. For me, the cherry blossom is a very interesting flower because it serves such an important role as a national symbol for the Japanese people. In America we do not really have a national flower.

    Right now in my area we are in the season of Eastern Redbud (cercis canadensis) flowering, which is somewhat similar to cherry blossoms, although not nearly as beautiful or as well-known. The flowers of the redbud are also edible. I wish it could be made into a special seasonal food that will bring it more attention.
