【京都vlog】最新京都カフェ巡り/大人の隠れ家レトロ喫茶/心も身体も癒される京町家ランチ/行列覚悟の抹茶スイーツ

“Kyoto, Tofukuji Temple” Our first stop is ROOT2 COFFEE, located at Tofukuji Temple. This popular spot, known for its specialty coffee roasted in-house and sweets, opened in April 2025. The interior, renovated from a 100-year-old traditional house, features a double-height ceiling for an exceptionally open feel. The space retains its old charm with many records, evoking both nostalgia and novelty. Tourists visit from early morning, and the pleasant chatter creates a cozy atmosphere. This time, I ordered a menu item that particularly caught my eye. 【Store Information】

Regular Holidays: Irregular holidays “Cafe Latte” I love watching the coffee and milk blend together in a cafe latte. “Drip Coffee” The shop’s recommended coffee has a deep richness and a lingering aftertaste. “Kamo Duck Toast” A Kyoto-inspired dish featuring roasted duck atop bread. The duck meat is moist and tender, pairing perfectly with the satisfyingly textured vegetables. The tangy grain mustard sauce leaves a refreshing aftertaste, and its popping texture adds a delightful element. It pairs wonderfully with coffee and is one of our favorites. “Banana Nuts Toast” A menu item perfect for treating yourself, generously topped with luxurious bananas. The caramelized banana surface has an impressive crispy texture. The rich nut butter combines perfectly with the nutty aroma and banana for a truly delightful pairing. A hint of cinnamon adds a subtle accent, making this a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. Located about a 5-minute walk from Tofukuji Temple, it’s perfect for stopping by after sightseeing. During the autumn foliage season, it will surely be even busier than now, making it an increasingly popular spot. When I’m in the mood to be soothed by delicious coffee, I definitely want to stop by again. Now, on to the next shop. “Kokoro Kitchen Kyoto Main Store”
“Kyoto Kitayama” The second shop is Kokoro Kitchen in Kitayama. Themed around “Fermentation & Wellness,” it opened in July 2025. This popular spot offers healthy menus featuring fermented foods and enzyme brown rice, gentle on both body and mind. The interior features the warmth of wood, renovated from a 50+ year old traditional Kyoto townhouse. Soft sunlight filters in, creating a relaxing, healing space. This time, we ordered the shop’s popular lunch menu. 【Store Information】
Name: Kokoro Kitchen Kyoto Main Store
Address: 31 Kamigamo Iwakagakucho, Kita Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture
Hours: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Last Order 5:00 PM)
Closed: Wednesdays, Thursdays (Check official Instagram) “Chicken and Tomato Fermented Spice Miso Curry” A spice curry that’s great for enjoying fresh vegetables together. The chicken, finished with salted rice malt, is tender and flaky, pairing perfectly with the tomato’s tangy acidity. You can really taste the spice aroma, and the lingering, pleasantly spicy heat is delicious. Enjoy the chewy texture of brown rice too—a menu that stimulates your appetite with every bite. “Colorful Plate of Enzyme Brown Rice Onigiri and Fermented Side Dishes” A popular lunch plate featuring enzyme brown rice onigiri and a vibrant assortment of various side dishes. The vegetable-focused side dishes, made using fermented seasonings like shio koji and amazake, offer a variety of flavors to enjoy. The brown rice onigiri are chewy and fragrant, releasing a soothing sweetness with each bite. The salted koji-marinated chicken is tender enough to cut with chopsticks, a dish your body will thank you for. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and their warm personalities were also soothing. Lunch often fills up completely, so making a reservation before visiting is recommended. It’s a wonderful place that fills your stomach and lifts your spirits. I’d love to visit again. Now, on to the next restaurant. “Hime Ringo”
“Kyoto, Kitayama” The third shop is Hime Ringo, located in Kitayama. Run by a husband-and-wife team, this café has been around for about 45 years and is popular for its sandwiches and parfaits. Opening the door feels like stepping back in time—a space that makes your heart flutter. The antique interior, featuring velvet chairs and stained glass, is simply lovely. The soothing tick of the old clock makes it feel like time moves more slowly here. This time, we ordered several of the shop’s popular menu items. 【Shop Information】

Address: 47 Nishigamo Shikanoshita-cho, Kita-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture
Business Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Regular Holiday: Mondays (Subject to change. We recommend confirming with the shop beforehand) “Iced Coffee” Drinking delicious coffee in such a wonderful cafe makes for the perfect day off. “Cream Soda” A beautiful blue cream soda, like a piece of blue sky captured inside a glass. The fizzy carbonation and slowly melting vanilla ice cream are incredibly refreshing. “Princess Apple Parfait” A parfait that captivated me with its pale colors, featuring perfectly round sorbet balls like little flowers. The melon-flavored sorbet, combined with vanilla ice cream and fresh cream, creates a light and refreshing taste. The sorbet has a strangely nostalgic flavor, making this parfait perfect for hot days. “Fruit Sandwich” A popular fruit sandwich featuring brown bread—a rare find—with seasonal fruit fillings. This day’s filling was packed with Shine Muscat grapes, kiwi, banana, and pineapple. The bread is moist and soft, with just the right amount of fresh cream to let the star fruits shine. A hint of sweet-and-sour jam adds a secret flavor, leaving a light aftertaste that makes it impossible to stop eating. As I was leaving, the kind couple who run the shop spoke to me warmly, and I became a fan right away. It’s a wonderful shop with many local regulars, and it’s easy to see why it continues to be loved by so many people. For those who want to spend an extraordinary time at a retro Kyoto cafe, I highly recommend it. Now, on to the next shop. “Tōtarō”
“Kyoto, Gojō” It’s been a while since I visited Tōtarō. Tōtarō is a popular shop known for sweets where sugar takes center stage and for its matcha. In summer, they also serve shaved ice, which is hugely popular—the shop feels like a live concert venue. They perform the matcha whisking right in front of you. The shaved ice at Tōtarō-san I absolutely had to try this year. Waiting in line for so long was totally worth it—it’s absolutely delicious. I want to dig into the shiratama dumplings at the bottom, but I’m holding back because it looks like it might collapse. My wife is obsessed with the shaved ice, so I’m cooling down with a matcha latte. This matcha latte is seriously delicious, so I wholeheartedly recommend it to matcha lovers. Extra matcha. My wife, finally getting her long-awaited shiratama. So chewy and satisfying—pure happiness in my mouth. The classic menu item: Shiratama Ice Cream. This one’s consistently delicious too. At Tōtarō, when you order a drink… Would you believe it? They throw in baby castella as a freebie. They’re so delicious, I could easily eat about 50 of them.
