When you want that cinnamon roll AND the apple pie, have these Bourbon Apple Cinnamon Rolls
Bourbon Apple Cinnamon Rolls Recipe
1. Prep the apples by mixing the following ingredients together. Set aside while you make the dough.
3 apples, cut into thin pieces
3 teaspoons vanilla
3 tablespoons bourbon
2. For the dough:
3 cups flour
1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup butter
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Melt the butter in a bowl with the milk and cream. When the mixture is warm to the touch (but not hot), add the sugar and mix. Then add the yeast and set aside for 10 minutes. Add the salt, egg, and vanilla. Mix and set aside.
Pour the flour in the bowl of a mixer. Then add the yeast mixture. Mix together until a dough is formed and is pulling cohesively away from the bowl. Transfer to a clean bowl that has been lightly greased with vegetable spray. Cover and let rise for 60-90 minutes or until doubled in size. Roll the dough out into a rectangle 1/8” thick.
3. For the filling:
1/3 cup softened butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Mix the cinnamon and brown sugar together in a small bowl and set aside. Spread the softened butter on dough you rolled out. Then cover with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Cut the dough into 1/8 inch flat 1” strips. Then add the bourbon apples in one layer on top of the sugar. Roll into a round, and transfer to a 9×13 baking pan. Set aside to rise for another 30-60 minutes or until the rolls are all very tightly close to each other.
Bake the rolls at 350F for 25-30 minutes or until light golden brown on top.
4. Cinnamon roll icing:
4 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
Mix all the icing ingredients together using a whisk or electric mixer. Spread on top of the bourbon Apple cinnamon rolls.
