Actually, they're made with tiny amounts of silver, or sometimes gold. They're a type of dragée and you can usually buy them wherever baking supplies are sold. In some countries they are considered edible toppings, but in others, like the USA, they're labeled for decoration only! They're even banned for sale in California due to several law suits.
So, I guess it depends on how adventurous you feel?
