With Severance Season 2 garnering HUGE critical acclaim and a slew of Emmy Nominations (including Outstanding Drama Series + Lead & Supporting Actors), Greg & John clock in at last for their Severance Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Series Movie Spoiler Review!!
Join us as we dive into the mind-bending world of Severance, the hit Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller series created by Dan Erickson and directed in its early episodes by Ben Stiller (Tropic Thunder, Escape at Dannemora). The show follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott – Parks and Recreation, Step Brothers), an employee at Lumon Industries who has undergone a mysterious “severance” procedure separating his work and personal memories into two distinct consciousnesses.
In Episode 1 (“Good News About Hell”), we’re introduced to Mark’s eerie work environment, his co-workers Helly R. (Britt Lower – Man Seeking Woman, High Maintenance), Irving Bailiff (John Turturro – The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?), and Dylan George (Zach Cherry – You, Crashing), as well as his enigmatic boss Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette – The Green Mile, Sharp Objects). The unsettling onboarding of Helly R. sets the tone for Lumon’s strange corporate culture.
Episode 2 (“Half Loop”) delves deeper into the rules and restrictions of the severed floor, with tense moments like Helly’s repeated escape attempts, Irving’s mysterious hallway wanderings, and the ominous first hints of “the break room.” Outside of work, Mark begins to question the limits of his own divided life. The dual timelines and haunting tone make for standout sequences that have quickly become fan favorites.
Greg & John unpack the symbolism, foreshadowing, and corporate dystopia while spotlighting standout performances from the cast, including Christopher Walken (Catch Me If You Can, The Deer Hunter) as Burt Goodman and Tramell Tillman (Hunters, Elementary) as the intimidating Mr. Milchick. From Lumon’s cryptic slogans to Helly’s chilling resignation video, we break down all the details in this Severance deep-dive.

  2. I write existential horror for rpgs and Severance fills me with absolute joy XD Just a thoroughly chilling and uncanny nightmare. One of my favorite shows of all time.

  3. Reel Rejects, TBR Schmidt, Nikki & Steven & The Raggedy Pack all reacting to this is definitely the cause of my increased screen time.

  4. Watched this show this year and absolutely loved it. I would also highly recommend watching 'Silo' on Apple TV, you're absolutely gonna love it- the plot, the way everything unfolds, the cinematography, the acting, everything is so genius

  5. I started an Apple TV subscription specifically to watch this show earlier this year. I binged the whole show in about 2 weeks. I'm so excited to see you react to it.

  6. Why aren’t your reactions to the entire thing out already. How dare you have lives and other video obligations? 😤(❤)

  7. 55:17 the girl here is Matt's lawyer partner Kirsten in Daredevil Born Again. when i watched the new Daredevil season i knew she looked familiar

  8. How did I not notice before that they give away a big [Spoiler] in episode 3 so casually? The fact that no one picked up on it during the original run is crazy. This show is done so well

  9. Never caught this before, when he is going in the elevator the first time, the guard says see you this evening, but Adam says see you soon. Because to him it will be basically immediately.

  10. Regarding copyright stuff on apple tv shows, they are BY FAR the easiest to work with. Rarely do they fully block a video, most of the time they just demonetize it. But if you dispute the claim, it might take a few days, but they will release it every time. I've never had a dispute rejected from Apple.

  11. Considering how the decisions of Lumon are an over the top parody of corporate boardroom nonsense, it wouldn't surprise me if they went "well the new severed workers have just had brain surgery so obviously they need to be lying down in a stable position" and then somebody piped up with "well yes but a bed doesn't fit our corporate environment and might inspire the idea that we allow napping. Much better to immediately introduce a proper office atmosphere by laying them on a table, which will clearly induce an industrious spirit"

  12. "I'm not smart enough, I'll just sit back and let it wash over me." Two minutes later: "Who's that god? Is it Mr. Eagan and his breakfast?" Guys, I think you're smarter than you think you are 😂

"Who's the cinematographer on this?" That'd be Jessica Gagné, who's nominated for an Emmy for this show. And she absolutely deserves it!

Ricken's pseudo-intellectual crew just… angers me to no end 😂

  13. 1:27:31 You're right. They mentioned in the official podcast with Ben and Adam that all of the mouth pictures were crew members. It's actually kind of funny, because they spent all of the time filming during Covid, so their mouths were constantly behind masks, so this was the first time they would have seen their faces.

  14. The Break Room is so simple and yet so evil. Just like when you make a student write on the black board a 100 times that 'I will not do it again'…That is a form of torture. I never saw it that way until this show. Also innocent people under interrogation will admit to committing the crime just to get out of the room. Crazy how the mind works and how evil people can be.

  15. I’m glad this is finally happening, you both bring such cool perspectives to the commentary of this show!

  16. I really appreciate your thoughtful discussions, and now on one of my favorite shows! Yay!
Part of the awesome is occasionally strongly disagreeing:)
    Keep up the good work!
    Praise Kier?
