Freezing Dough for Perfect Dinner Rolls

These perfect dinner rolls just got even better! You don’t have to bake all 35 rolls at once—now you can freeze the dough and enjoy fresh, homemade rolls anytime you want. Just shape, freeze, and bake when you’re ready!

✨ Ingredients:

• 2 1/2 cups warm water
• 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
• 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, melted
• 2 teaspoons salt
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 7 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions:

1️⃣ In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast.
2️⃣ Add melted butter, salt, sugar, egg, and flour. Mix until well combined, then knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
3️⃣ Transfer to a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
4️⃣ Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions to form rolls (this makes about 35 rolls). Place them on a greased baking sheet.
5️⃣ Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes, or until doubled.
6️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 22-25 minutes, until golden brown.
7️⃣ Let them cool slightly, then enjoy warm with butter!

Freezing Instructions:

Want fresh-baked rolls on demand? Here’s how to freeze the dough:
❄️ After the first rise, shape the dough into rolls and place them on a baking sheet.
❄️ Freeze for about 2 hours, until firm.
❄️ Transfer the frozen dough balls into a ziplock bag or airtight container for easy storage.

How to Bake Frozen Rolls:

➡️ Remove the rolls from the freezer and place them in a baking dish.
➡️ Let them thaw and rise for about 4 hours, until doubled in size.
➡️ Bake as usual at 350°F for 22-25 minutes, until golden brown.

The best part? The rolls turn out just as soft and delicious as if they were made fresh! You can even use this dough for monkey bread, and it turns out perfect every time—even after freezing.

Let me know if you try this method! Fresh, homemade bread just got even easier. 😋

  1. I’m gonna try this, cut the recipe in half but I’ve been dying for some good yeast rolls, the ones we used to serve at my first job were the best ever but idk the recipe so I’ll give this one a go!!!

  2. About freezing the dough, did you wait until after the first rise of 40 minutes, then weigh out and form 35 dough balls and then freeze?
